Dear St. Thomas family & FriendsIt is with sadness that I write to let you know that Deacon Sam Filiatreau passed away during the night on Sunday. Many of you have known him far better and longer than I had the chance to, and so you know better than I how much his spirit and his generous service will be missed. It was my privilege when I arrived last month to be able to bring him and Joann Holy Communion and to give them the sacrament of Anointing of the Sick. At my last visit with him on Friday, I gave Deacon Sam the Apostolic Pardon, a plenary indulgence which the Church offers to all who are near death. I am very grateful as well for the way Deacon Scott Turner has ministered to Joann and the family during these last weeks.
Visitation will be held at Barlow Funeral Home on Thursday, July 15th from 3:00 to 8:00 PM and on Friday, July 16th from 9:00 to 10:45 AM. Deacon Scott Turner will lead a vigil prayer service at the funeral home at 6:00 PM on Thursday.
The Funeral Mass for Deacon Sam will be celebrated on Friday, July 16th at 11:30 AM in St. Teresa Hall. Fr. Jason Harris will be the celebrant. The rite of committal will take place immediately following in the parish cemetery.
Due to the funeral, Mass at 9:00 AM on Friday will be canceled. Please join me in praying for Deacon Sam as he journeys to his true home, for his wife Jo Ann, his family, and all who are grieving his loss. I pray that as he sees his Lord face to face, he hears him say, "Well done, good and faithful servant; come, share your Master's joy" (Matthew 25:21). In the hope of the Resurrection,
